Some people might laugh at these photos of porn star Scarlett Fay promoting her Lindsay Lohan video for Hustler, but let’s be frank for a minute. This chick is doing way better than Lindsay. I mean, just think about it: She’s employed, not sentenced to rehab and stars in a movie that actually got made instead of being nothing but promo shots in a seedy hotel room. If it was up to me, I’d hire her to be Lindsay’s life-coach/personal Jesus and years from now she’d thank me for it. Preferably in the form of a free copy of “Freckles Fellatio: Space Attorney.”

THE HAGUE, Netherlands — War crimes judges on Tuesday ordered special security measures for fashion model Naomi Campbell when she testifies at the trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor, barring photographers from catching her entering or leaving the courtroom.

The judges say Campbell's fears for her safety and privacy are legitimate because of her high profile and the intense media interest in her appearance.

In its ruling, the Special Court for Sierra Leone instructed authorities to ensure that no one photograph, video tape or even sketch Campbell in or around the courtroom.

Her testimony, however, will be recorded as usual by courtroom cameras.

She is due to appear Thursday, but judges have not yet decided on a motion submitted last week by Taylor's lawyers to delay her appearance.

Measures to protect witnesses in war crimes cases are routine, especially when disclosure of their identity could subsequently endanger them or their families. Such witnesses testify under pseudonyms and with their images blurred in recordings of their testimony.

But blocking the media from photographing a known witness is highly unusual.

The court did not go as far as Campbell had wanted. She had asked the judges for a gag order on all information “gleaned about her stay at the court” apart from her public testimony.

Campbell was summoned to testify about whether she received diamonds from Taylor after a celebrity-studded dinner in South Africa in 1997. Taylor is accused of trading in “blood diamonds” in exchange for helping rebel factions during the 11-year civil war in Sierra Leone. He has denied possessing such conflict diamonds.

Every time I see a hot air balloon I want to burst into song. All I can hear is “Up, Up and Away” by Fifth Dimension, and I get a strange urge to don bell bottoms and break out my old tie-dyed t-shirts (yes, I still have them). While this isn't quite reflective on a 1970s trip, this photo of a hot air balloon festival sure is, well festive.

This photo, taken by Jillian Logee, is titled “Ascending Explosion” and was taken over Göreme, Cappadocia, Turkey. Between the colors of the balloons, the undulations of the hills, the contrasting colors of the landscape, we don't know where to look first. But whatever man, it's totally groovy…

Have a photo you think is far out? Submit it to our Gadling Flickr Pool and we might just choose to feature it as a Photo of the Day.

Are you looking for pink laptops? Chances are, there are not many choices in the market if you’re into reliability. According to a data released by an insurance company insuring laptops, Asus, Toshiba and Sony top the list for reliability while Acer, Gateway (part of Acer) and HP occupy the bottom 3. Dell on the other hand occupy the middle ground. Given a choice, I did go for Sony Vaio Pink laptop. Why?

Leaving aside technical specs, Sony is much more reliable than Dell. Price wise, Dell is slightly more cheaper. Look at the image above, a quick comparison between Dell Studio and Sony Vaio shows that Sony has a whole lot more pink surface than Dell. Dell’s pink surface is nothing more than an ornament, how often do we look at the exterior of a laptop? Sony’s pink makes more sense.

Branding wise, it looks cooler to own a Sony Vaio pink notebook, not to mention the status associate with it. Go Pink!

I have this computer and there’s no way around this built-in microphone. Use a USB microphone headset. This is what I do and works well.

I tested the default port for the microphone, and is as poor as other reviewers have said. I recorded my voice with him, and the sound is blurred and distorted. I can read, but the quality is acceptable, and crazy if you had used all the time. Shame on HP for it. That’s why I took a star from the control should work correctly.

However, the laptop is still for me, the laptop 5 stars in any other way. And I discovered that when using a Logitech USB headset (which costs about $ 35.00) to record my voice, the sound quality is excellent. I’m using USB microphones education aloud recognition feature in Windows 7 The results were excellent.

Do not use VoIP or video conferencing, and people who complain, built-in microphone, but you can use these functions with a microphone, USB, I see no reason why it does not work. Perhaps someone with these characteristics, you can try and report here.

I paid $ 425.00 for the laptop at Staples about a month ago. With the coupon, I saw recently at a cost of only $ 400. At this price, it is a good solution, if everything continues to function properly. So far I am happy with him.

If your only concern is the microphone, but he could live with a USB microphone (which I read tend to give better results as a whole), then you might want to consider this model.

Great Laptop – Worth Money

Its been nearly 3 months since I bough this laptop and this laptop is just working fine and it has exceeded my expectation. I have been planning to buy a new laptop for months and finally I settled for this one. My main purpose for buying laptop is for internet browsing, watching movies, music and playing games… This laptop satisfies all these purpose more than what I had expected.. Certainly this laptop is worth the money and I would definitely suggest this laptop for basic multimedia computing…

Pros-
1) The laptop speakers are awesome. The music is very clear.
2) The HD screen is a next plus.
3) Battery stays nearly for 4 hours.
4) This laptop comes with windows 7 and windows 7 media center is simply superb.

Cons-
1) The fan makes little noise when any antivirus software or any updates from HP or windows takes place on the laptop. For the money and the Intel T4400 core duo processor this is expected.

PurchaseHP G60-630US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Nice, solid laptop computer

After 5 months of daily use, this seems to be a good product. I would be more enthusiastic if I hadn’t been burned shortly after the end of the warranty of other laptops (notably from Toshiba). Everything works. The fit and finish are great. I can’t speak to the microphone issues others have mentioned as I use a USB headset (highly recommended). The display is good. The speakers are weak. The HP support software is occasionally annoying. Whatever. It’s a business laptop. It’s fairly light weight. It works. The price ($550) was reasonable. If it keeps working for two full years, I’ll be satisfied.

UPDATE: Still working great. BTW, the internal mic is perfectly fine, although the quality of sound for VoIP calls is much better with a USB headset. I’ve bought 2 more of these laptops for my company.

Have you heard the latest buzz about a unique photo printing process that creates blue-tinted cyanotype images? It is all the rage in the photography and art galleries. Cyanotypes are making waves both nationwide and in local cities like Indianapolis, showing signs of being the hottest trend around. Many art collectors seem to be drawn to the striking blue images of plants, architectural structures or objects such as keys or feathers. While it isn't always easy to find local sources to make or buy cyanotype prints, Indianapolis is lucky to have classes and art galleries for anyone who wants to buy or learn how to make cyanotype photos and prints. But first….

What are cyantotypes and why are they so popular?

Cyanotypes are not new but go back to the early days of photography. A cyanotype is created by using a monochromatic photographic printing process, either with special chemicals or with the aid of specific types of paper. Although Sir John Herschel is often credited with discovering or creating them, one popular photographer who also made cyanotypes was Anna Atkins. Interestingly, Atkins and Herschel lived relatively close to one another and their families were friends.

Examples of the work of Anna Atkins can be seen at the New York Public Library's Digital Gallery here: digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital_dev/index.cfmI (simply put Anna Atkins in the search box to see examples). Although the images of leaves, ferns and other items seem to be blue photographs, the process of creating a cyanotype is not exactly like shooting a photo. If you are a fan of blue images and artwork, you may be equally drawn to cyanotypes. Their rich tones are very appealing – plus they can be relatively easy to make.

Indianapolis artist, Ginny Taylor, explains why cyanotypes may be so popular

I recently spoke with a local Indianapolis artist, Ginny Taylor, a woman who both sells cyanotypes and also teaches students how to make them. She noted that people may be drawn to cyanotype prints because they can't be duplicated with a digital camera. She added that each cyanotype is unique, varying slightly due to the amount of light that hits special paper made for creating the blue color of each image.

A link to early photographic history and the ability to create one of a kind photographic images may also explain why this very unique photo printing process is hot right now. Even though cyanotypes aren't new, they are facing a resurgence for those drawn to older photos and photographic techniques that can't be duplicated with digital cameras. They also have a certain appeal to purists, those who never fell in love with digital photos. Others like to experiment with both types of creating images, traditional photography and cyanotype printing processes.

Versatility may be another key to the appeal of cyanotype prints. They can be created on both paper and fabric. This means they can be used as framed artwork or put on fabric and used in quilts, fabric art hangings or other types of art. Even children can learn how to create these wonderful portraits or prints, depending on the technique used.

Cyanotype prints – being shown in Indianapolis as well as in other galleries

Lake Street Galleries, located in Gary, Indiana, has featured a cyanotype show by artists Dan Novatowski and Judy Schlosser. The gallery's website can be seen here: lakestreetgallery.com/ and the striking blue prints by the artists focus on landscape and portraits. These artists may be adapting or changing the work they create later.

In Indianapolis, Ginny Taylor creates cyanotypes photographic prints and teaches students how to make them. She told me they aren't difficult to make, especially if aspiring artists start with specially coated paper first. She offers classes to both individual and groups of students. Even children can learn this technique but would need to contact the artist to find out about that possibility. Taylor's website is: http://www.stutzartists.com/artist and is being revamped so check back for updates. Her work can be seen at her studio or at the Stutz Art Gallery. She can also be contacted at ginnytaylorossner@hotmail.com.

The Indianapolis Art Center has also offered classes in cyanotype photos and prints. They can be contacted for further information on the possibility of creating your own unique artwork, perhaps for a Christmas or holiday gift or as a special present. The Indianapolis Art Center's website is: www.indplsartcenter.org
and their address is 820 E. 67th Street. Their phone number is (317) 255-2464.

I don't know you all but I find the canon concept technology great but the hardware horrid. First of all, I do not want a camera that looks like my wife's hairdryer. As good as the camera's lens is I am sure better ones are gonna come along so if I want a camera that doesn't let me change lenses then I get a point-and-shoot camera. If this is canon's point and shoot concept, I think is way too big. What about new lenses, filters, etc?? a touch strip for zooming? holy crap, is this for real? I expect software handled motorized zooming in a point and shoot. There is a reason why SLR's have manual zoom available. We like to control technology not the other way around. Regardless how good touch tech is getting I know my own fingers can get the picture I see in my head before I take it, can a touch strip and a motorized zoom do the same? I understand its just a concept but a good concept should show all possibilities a technology offers and frankly this camera doesn't offer much than good software. I believe cameras are a lot more than just good software. I already have a camera that offers burst shots and I definitely do not like fishing for the right shot. The other point I wanna make is that no matter how good technology gets photography and video are always going to be two separate worlds, even if they are present in the same device. I think it was great how the software really improved the facial recognition of the camera, but I am not sure about keeping focus on all parts of an image. I mean, I would like that when I am taking a picture I wanna crop later but what if you don't want to crop it. One signature feature of a true SLR camera is that you get that crispy clear portrait shot with the faded background , if the camera is always going to keep focus on everything that will be gone. The last two things to mention is what about shots in the dark, I didn't see the camera performing very good in low light conditions. I know CMOS lenses along with ISO adjustment can do a better night shot without the aid of a flash, but have you seen a video camera do the same at night?? I know I haven't. I haven't seen that even with expensive video cameras. GRAIN EVERYWHERE! but let's say the technology is much better and the grain video is gone. what do you do when you wanna “take a picture” with a flash. Is this thing gonna have enough battery to keep your video going in the dark for a while, and if it does you know how hot its going to get. I am sorry but just showing a concept with so many questions unanswered its almost offensive. I would've understood if canon was trying to present a new software concept for the camera of the future but this is not the case. That camera belongs in a sci-fi movie theater not in a graphic designer or photographer's desk.

For some, conceptual photography might not say much, but for me, the idea of conceptual is just the opposite. It is an open door to imagination, for free thinking and birth of ideas and concepts.

Matthias Heiderich has taken some really beautiful conceptual pictures of Berlin, and I find these really inspirational: the colors, the geometrical forms, they all tell us so much. Anyways, I hope you enjoy these, and for more of this amazing work, you may visit his portfolio. Cheers! ;)

Acer has been creating a ton of headlines around the web over the past twelve months, and with good cause. The volume PC builder appears to be on-track to overtake HP as the biggest notebook PC manufacturer in the world. This is a lofty goal considering Acer's Chairman J.T. Wang admitted to dealing with struggling sales in Europe and wage increases in China.  According to information compiled by Gartner, Acer shipped 9.49 million laptops, giving them a slight edge over HP who put out a meager 9.47 million.

During a conference call with investors Wang gave himself a well-deserved pat on the back by claiming the companies recent success is a result of strong leadership. "We are one of a very few that is able to respond to the market when demand stabilized in the latter part of the second quarter because we were prepared". In addition to the positive news on the laptop front, Wang also forecasts a much higher demand for desktop PCs, and expects Acer shipments in this department to rise as high as 10 million this year, a full 2 million more than in 2009.

On the mobile phone front, Acer also announced that it is investing $15 million in R&D to develop new phones based on the Android OS. It's no surprise that they are choosing to expand in the direction of Smart phones, but it will be interesting to measure this investment against HP's  $1.2 billion in WebOS once all the dust settles.
